Avanti in the 1970s + Flavored Cigars

A Sweet Journey with Avanti

July 21, 2023

Here at Avanti, we’ve been on quite the adventure since the Suraci brothers began their cigar-making journey over a century ago. Every part of that journey has been exciting, but none were quite as life-changing as the introduction of Avanti Anisette in the 1970s.

Parodi Cigar Company building in Scranton PA

Prior to the 1970s, Avanti was operating as the Parodi Cigar Company out of Scranton, Pennsylvania. The company recovered after the Great Depression and was beginning to thrive once again. At the time, Parodi was selling traditional Italian-style dry-cured cigars with fire-cured tobacco in styles like Kings and Ammazzati

In the 1970s, the company decided to try something new – they introduced the signature Avanti cigar to the market. The very first Avanti Cigar was flavored with an Anisette tip. Avanti Anisette became very popular. In fact, it was so successful that the Parodi Cigar Company decided to reorganize as the Avanti Cigar Company that we know today!

At the time, Avanti Anisette was the only flavored cigar available. Eventually, the line was expanded to include other flavors like Bourbon, Vanilla, and Licorice. Recently, Avanti Cherry was introduced as the newest addition to the Avanti flavor line. Today, the wrappers are flavored to ensure every puff is as strong and sweet as the next.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come since introducing Avanti Anisette to the market. With five different flavors to choose from, it’s hard to pick a favorite. Grab an Avanti Flavors Collection and try them all!
