It’s a well known fact that many people enjoy smoking cigars … from the guy next door to Hollywood royalty, the variety of people who enjoy cigars range from the average, every day smoker to many famous cigar smokers. Cigars have become a staple in many movies, and there are quite a few celebrities who have enjoyed smoking Avanti cigars both on and off camera.
Francis Ford Coppola
One of the several famous cigar smokers who loved Avanti is none other than the critically acclaimed director, producer, and writer, Francis Ford Coppola. Best known for smash hits including “The Godfather” series and “Apocalypse Now,” Coppola originally hailed from Detroit, but grew up surrounded by his American-Italian family in the suburbs of New York. Francis Ford Coppola liked Avanti cigars so much that he started his own private label to sell that at his winery in Napa. His winery is located near Geyserville, California, and is also considered a resort destination where he also displays several of his Academy Awards and movie memorabilia.
“Ol’ Blue Eyes” himself was also an avid fan of Avanti cigars, and particularly fond of our DeNobilis brand. An American singer and film star, Sinatra originally grew up on Hoboken, NJ as the only son of Italian immigrants. After some convincing by his mother, Sinatra joined a local singing group, and eventually came to be idolized by the “bobby soxers” of his generation. After many hit songs and movies, he went on to win an Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in “From Here to Eternity.” Sinatra was a founding member of “The Rat Pack” and often proclaimed that he “would rather breathe the smoke of 3 DeNobilis than fresh air.” Fans of popular movie culture may be quick to recognize the little blue and yellow pack of the DeNobili Popular from its many appearances in Hollywood productions of the 50’s and 60’s.
Another famous Hollywood legend that frequently smoked cigars in his movies is Clint Eastwood. His achievements as a director, actor, producer, and composer are celebrated all over the world. Having been discovered on accident, Eastwood went on to several bit parts in movies, then to the television series “Rawhide.” Initially he wast extremely uncomfortable with his role in the show, after which is career evolved to the incredibly successful western films for which he became famous. It’s believed that the Avanti cheroots were the cigars smoked by Eastwood in his spaghetti westerns, and we are extremely proud to share our brand name with this incredibly influential part of American film history.
